How Long Does Pool Construction Take? A Timeline Breakdown

If you’ve been dreaming about installing a custom pool in your backyard, one of the first questions you’ve likely asked is: How long does pool construction take? At Kingswood Outdoors, we believe in full transparency—and that includes helping you understand the entire process and expected timeline.

While every project is unique, here’s a general look at what goes into building a custom pool from concept to completion.

Phase 1: Consultation and Design (1–2 weeks)

This initial stage involves an in-depth consultation with our team. We’ll discuss your vision, evaluate your space, and begin crafting a custom pool design tailored to your lifestyle and property. Once the design is finalized, we move into permitting and scheduling.

Phase 2: Permitting and Planning (2–6 weeks)

Permitting timelines can vary depending on your city within the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Our team handles all the required paperwork to secure permits on your behalf while finalizing construction logistics and timelines.

Phase 3: Excavation and Framing (1 week)

Once we break ground, the excavation process typically takes a few days, followed by setting up the steel frame of your pool. This is where your design starts taking shape physically.

Phase 4: Plumbing and Electrical (1 week)

Next, our licensed professionals install all plumbing and electrical components. This includes water lines, filtration systems, lighting, and smart automation if selected.

Phase 5: Gunite Application and Curing (2–3 weeks)

Gunite, the structural shell of your pool, is sprayed into the frame. It then cures for a few weeks to ensure strength and durability. This is one of the most crucial phases of pool construction.

Phase 6: Tile, Coping, and Decking (1–2 weeks)

During this phase, we install your chosen premium materials like coping stones, waterline tile, and deck surface. We ensure everything is level, seamless, and reflects the luxury finish you’re expecting.

Phase 7: Interior Finish and Fill (1 week)

The final step is applying the interior surface (plaster, pebble, or glass bead finish), after which the pool is filled with water. We'll also balance the water chemistry to ensure safety and longevity.

Final Walkthrough and Orientation

Once the pool is ready, we guide you through how to use your system, maintain it, and enjoy your new outdoor space confidently.

Total Time: 8–12 Weeks (On Average)

This can vary based on design complexity, weather conditions, and permitting delays. However, our team works efficiently to meet your timeline without sacrificing quality.
